Hello :) This is a fabulous recipe from a blog called joythebaker.com. My daughter Holly, told me about Joy The Baker's, delicious and funny blog! Since my daughter Holly, is coming over for a visit tonight I baked a batch of Easy Cinnamon Roll Muffins. As you can see I did not add the icing to the tops (even though it looks pretty), because they were so tasty without it. The recipe calls for a spice called Cardamom. The Cardamom adds a wonderful flavor to the whole muffin (even though it is only in the topping). A suggestion for the less adventurous baker is to devide the filling topping into two separate bowls and add Cardamom to one bowl and make a few muffins with the Cardamom and a few without. At least you will know if you like it or not, and can say you tried it :) Don't be afraid to try new things! I bought my Cardamom at Cost Plus World Market (great price compared to some other places I checked) . You can also try Indian markets.

The sent of brown sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom, filled the kitchen with warm muffin goodness.

They really are delicious and the perfect dessert for a rainy day. What a sweet way to warm up the kitchen and share a little baking love with family.

**EASY CINNAMON ROLL MUFFINS**

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 tsp salt4 tsp active dry or rapid rise yeast
2/3 cup warm milk (100-110F; low fat is fine)
3 tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 large egg

**Filling/Topping**
2 tbsp butter, room temperature
2/3 cup brown sugar
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
pinch ground cardamom

**Icing**
1 cup powdered sugar
1-2 tbsp milk or cream.

Aimee's Tip: I have made these with the icing before. I divided the icing into two bowls and added cinnamon to one bowl, and drizzled the one without the cinnamon over the muffins first (waited a minute for the icing to set) and then drizzled the one with cinnamon over the plain icing. It gave a pretty lattice effect.

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar and salt. Dissolve the yeast in a measuring cup filled with the warmed milk, then stir milk mixture, vegetable oil, vanilla extract and egg into the flour mixture. Mix well, until very smooth. Pour into prepared pan and let rest for 15 minutes. While the dough rests, mix together butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and cardamom in a small bowl using a fork until all the butter has been incorporated into the sugar and mixture is crumbly. Divide the batter between 12 greased muffin cups. Sprinkle evenly on top of rested dough and press the mixture down into the dough with your fingertips (or swirl in with a spatula.) Place pan into a cold oven, then set the oven temperature to 350F. Bake for about 20 minutes, until bread is lightly browned at the edges and the center of the bread springs back when lightly pressed. Some of the sugar mixture on top may still be bubbling. Cool for at least 30 minutes before whisking the powdered sugar and milk together to form an icing and drizzling it onto the bread. Serve warm. Leftovers can be reheated in the microwave.

Was just thinking I might just add some orange zest in the batter next time! Holly, I think we should try it, and let my fine readers know if it was a good decision. After all I can't tell my fine readers to try new things if I won't. Right? ! Until next time!

They Were Meant to Be

Hello :) It has been way too long since my last post! Whenever I say to myself I am going to blog more life gets hectic. So I have decided not to tell myself that any more, and just let it fly when I can. I bought this chair at an Estate sale for $1.00! It was used as a patio chair. Even though it was used for outdoors it was still very sturdy and begging me for a makeover. I bought the chair and later that same day found this material at an antique shop. Immediately in my head I saw my "new" chair wearing this material. They were meant to be together. Just a little peek of the finished product in the above picture :)

Right when I got home I unloaded her out of the truck, removed the seat, upholstered the seat, sanded, painted her,and attached the seat! In a perfect world (not mine) maybe this would have happened immediately when I got home, but it didn't. I unloaded her the next day, two weeks went by before I removed the seat, another day went by before I sanded, and put a fresh coat of paint on her. A few days later I put two more coats. A couple days after that I reupholstered and attached the seat to the chair! When I finally finished I loved how it turned out. I am looking forward to in the future giving more chairs slow makeovers.

Pretty material right?!

Now I just need to tag her and take her to my shop (booth) 21Cranberry Lane!

Maybe I'll do that next week ;)

QUANTUM FINISH SALE!

Hello :) Just thought I'd pop in and tell you about an amazing deal! I went to my local VONS Grocery Store, and found my favorite dish washing tablets on sale. Not only was Quantum on sale for $11.99 (45 tablets in each box =90), but they were buy one get one FREE! I love this brand. My dishes come out sparkly clean, and the dishwasher gets a good cleaning at the same time. I have been using this brand since it came out. They are a little pricey (excluding this awesome deal), but before I started using them I was having to set the dishwasher twice to get the dishes clean. I was sold after the first use. One thing I found out is I can't wash my aluminum cookware with Quantum,because it discolors them, but I don't mind washing them by hand. So if you have a VONS near you go on over and take advantage of this awesome deal!

Leftovers Can Be Delish

Hello :) When possible I am all about getting two dinners out of one meal! I had some leftover chicken breast, and tomato ,basil topping. I brought some Kalamata Olive bread, home from a recent trip to San Fransisco. I was invited by my daughter Holly to celebrate her bday in San Fransisco, along with her sisters and her bff. We had the best time and I am looking forward to going back! Any way they really do have the best bread in SF. So I got my skillet out and while that was getting good and hot I sliced some delish Kalamata bread, and spread some butter on both sides. Put the bread on the skillet to toast and added the chicken, tomato, basil topping, a slice of cheese ( of your liking), and toasted both sides! For my side dish I made more couscous and topped it with Kalamata Olives, and some crumbled Fat Free Feta Cheese! It was a huge hit! It was quick, yummy and refreshing. For dessert I served Fat Free Vanilla Yogurt topped with berries and homemade Granola.

After I used all of the tomato, basil topping this beautiful flavored Balsamic Vinegar was left. Instead of tossing it I toasted some bread and used it to dip my bread in. It was a tasty tangy snack.

Tip: When toasting bread in a skillet use real butter or oil. I have used Smart Balance Butter, and "butters" like it. Because some "butters" contain water it makes the bread soggy, and it sticks to the pan. Do you have a fave you like to make with leftovers?

Chicken Breast With Tomato Basil Topping

Hello :) The other day I was trying to decide what to make for dinner. Seeing that it was in the mid 90's, I wanted to make something light, tasty, and filling. So I went over to my favorite market Trader Joes. I love Traders! It's a small specialty market. I grabbed my cart and spotted some delicious vine ripe tomatoes. I'm thinking I have chicken breast in the fridge, these lovely tomatoes in my hand, and basil in the garden. This is what I came up with!

Chicken Breast With Tomato Basil Topping. Grab your skillet, add some extra virgin olive oil and preheat. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels, and give it a little salt and pepper rub on both sides. Put the chicken in the skillet and cook away (I probably didn't need to tell you this step :). While the chicken was cooking I made the topping. For the topping check out my July post all the way at the bottom of my side bar. I garnished with Kalamata Olives and Parmesan Cheese. My family loved this dish. I may try this topping with Salmon, and garnish with some Capers, and Feta Cheese!

Cous Cous is very good. Don't be afraid to try making it. I love to eat it with some Feta Cheese, on top. Instead of butter I use 1/2 table spoon extra virgin olive oil.

Before and After!

Hello :) I bought this butter dish at an estate sale. Not knowing what type of metal it was I used Tarn-X, silver cleaner to polish it up. After I used the Tarn-X, it looked like I dug it up out of a fire. The picture above and below are the after Tarn-X. I figured since I already ruined it why not try Brasso metal cleaner. What did I have to lose? Right!

This is what happened when I used the wrong metal cleaner. It even smelled a little funny.

As you can see the Brasso, was working!

She is shining bright and ready to hold butter! It was a $3 easy fix. I still have a lot left in the bottle for some future mistakes :) Before you toss it try another cleaner. Have you done something similar? I'd love to know what you did and how you fixed it. Until next time!

Hello Orange Tree !

Hello :) I hope you are all doing well. Today I want to show you my orange tree. It was a gift from my daughter Aleah,10 years ago. My orange tree is from Cal Poly Pomona, Aleah's alma-mater. If you are ever in Pomona,CA visit The Farm Store at Kellogg Ranch ( 4102 S. University Drive, Pomona,CA 91768 ) . You will find plants, veggies, fruits, trees (such as my Dwarf Navel Orange Tree), cheeses, gifts, and other great stuff. There is even a pick your own Strawberry Patch ! Can you say jam, smoothies, and other delicious homemade treats. Now onto my orange tree. I love to slice some oranges and squeeze some into my ice water, Ginger Ale, ice tea, and make homemade Cranberry Orange Scones, and Oriental Salad Dressing (squeeze some of the orange juice in your homemade dressing or add a yummy touch to store bought) . My tree and I are the same height. A whopping 5ft tall! Sure makes picking the fruit easy.

These oranges are so sweet and juicy. Even the ones that are a little green on top! Love that fresh scent!

Garden Bird

Hello :) I came home from running errands and found this little bird in my garden. Isn't it cute! He or she was just poking around and chirping. I think it was looking for some breakfast. It stayed for a few minutes and then went on it's way. It was so nice of him/her to come over for a visit. Maybe I should have offered to make him/her some Bird Seed Scones. It's Raining Chocolate Chips!

Hello :) Albertons Grocery Store, near my daughters (Holly) house is closing (so sad for the employees). They are slashing prices, and that included chocolate chips. Not just any old chocolate chip brand, but Ghirardelli Chocolate Chips! My daughter bought 6 bags for me ($1 a bag)! Milk chocolate, Semi-Sweet, and Dark Chocolate. Dark Chocolate is my fave! My son Aneel (20), smiling handed me a bag of Milk Chocolate Chips. I took the hint and baked some Chocolate Chip Cookies. He ate so many cookies I thought for sure he was going to be sick, but he didn't. I just followed the recipe on the back of the bag. It was that easy!

All covered in flour and waiting for the rest of the ingredients. I love that these chocolate chips are so big!

Don't they just look heavenly. Lumpy, bumpy, chocolaty goodness.

All cozy in their bed and ready for the freezer. Goodness in every bag!

Take the time and bake some Chocolate Chip Cookies. Enjoy your families smiling faces.

From Lemons to Curd

Hello :) My sweet friend Nadine, hosted a wonderful Tea Party. I decided to make Lemon Curd, using Meyer Lemons. And give one to each friend. I love Lemons, but they don't like me so much. Lemons did not always dislike me. It all happened when I was pregnant with my first son. I do try them every now and then to see if they have changed their mind, but so far they haven't. I was able to have a little taste and it was so yummy! This would be a wonderful gift to give along with some homemade scones, some tea bags, honey, or sugar cubes, pretty tea cup, and a little spoon ( look at my post from 9/9/9 for scone recipe). The Lemon Curd recipe is from The Barefoot Contessa (Ina Garten).

Don't you just love the bright yellow color of Lemons and their fresh scent! Citrus scented lotions and soaps are my favorite. I'm still trying to find a wonderfully citrus scented perfume.

Beautiful YELLOW! I love my kitchen gadgets!

As the curd is cooking it gets thicker, brighter, and more beautiful!

My New Fave Sparkle Drink!

Hello :) I know that in some parts of the world it's winter. I've seen the news and pictures on blogs of winter. Yesterday was the first day we have had rain in some time. Before yesterday we were experiencing a mild summer in the 80's to 90's! Today we are back to warm weather. So during our mild summer I am enjoying a delish citrus sparkle drink. I must warn you the delish citrus flavor is addicting. I can drink a whole bottle all by myself! Next week it looks like we are in the 70's! Anise Cookies

Hello :) I hope everyone had a fantastic CHRISTmas and Happy New Year! Anise Cookies are one of my favorite cookies. Also known as Mexican Wedding Cookies, Mexican Anise Cookies, Italian Anise Cookies, and many other names. Anise seeds (aniseed) are small and brownish in color. The seeds come from the flowering part of the Pimpinella anisum, and is part of the Parsley family. The seeds taste like black licorice. I have tried many recipes to find one just like the one my mom used to make. I found two recipes online took what I wanted from each recipe and made one. Throw some birdseed it was a great marriage! Feeling like I just didn't eat enough of these delish cookies at Christmas, I made another batch! My waistline tells me I ate more than enough, but I am weak :( I told myself it was okay to make one more batch, because I was making them for my sister Jenni!

Anise Seeds in my mortar and pestle. My daughter Aleah, bought this little beauty for me when she was in Canada. I love it!

My husband bought this attachment for me for my KitchenAid. The sides have a scraper. I love it! He also bought me an extra bowl! He sure spoils me :)

Anise Cookies

1 c. butter

1/2 c. sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

1 tsp. anise extract ( 1/2tsp. for a less intense flavor)

1 egg

2 1/2 c. flour

1/4 tsp.baking powder(1/2 tsp,for a softer cookie)

1 tbs.anise seed,lightly crushed(add less or more if you would like)

Cinnamon Sugar mixture

1/2 c. sugar

3 tbs. ground Cinnamon

In mixer blend the butter and sugar. Add extracts and egg to butter and blend. In separate bowl mix flour, baking powder, and anise seeds. Add dry to wet and blend. Separate dough in half, roll into two logs. Wrap in wax paper refrigerate for an hour or freeze for 15 -20 minutes. Remove wax paper and cut into 1/4 inch rounds. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes. While hot put cookies in Cinnamon Sugar mixture , place onto cooling rack. EAT!

Paper Dolls and Glitter

Hello :) I bought a package (30 sheets) of beautiful untouched paper dolls at an estate sale over the summer. When I bought them I didn't know what I was going to do with them. Just could not resist. I didn't even play with dolls or paper dolls growing up. Anyway the idea of making gift tags/bookmarks came to mind. So I emailed Julie over at A Vintage Chic, and asked her what kind of glitter glue would be best to use to glitz them up. If you haven't visited Julie's blog you should. Julie is so very talented, and so very sweet. I always enjoy my visits to her blog.

Dolls all cut out.

The Stickles Glitter Glue, Julie recommended. They have a fine tip for making fine lines. The colors are pretty and the price is great. I love them! Thank you for the recommendation Julie.

It took me forever to cut all 100 of them out. I had to buy special scissors with a fine tip to do job. Thank goodness for my 40% off Michaels coupon. I'm a coupon girl!

Here are a few closeups. I wish you could see how glittery they are. I punched a hole in each one, strung them using gold string, and put each one in its own cellophane bag. Now all I need to do is price each one and take them to my shop! It was time consuming and relaxing at the same time.

Now for some not so good news. My camera is in the shop. It was losing its focus. I had no choice,but to take it in for some tlc. I should hear the diagnosis in a couple of weeks. Its been one week so far. I miss my camera. For now I am using my phone. Like I mentioned in my last post I have a shop (booth) at the Mission Galleria Antique Mall. Actually the word mall isn't even in the name,but so many people add that in the name. I can't wait to share some pics of my (my two older sisters, mom, and friend share it) shop Cranberry Lane. Yipeeee!!!

Hello :) It has been way too long since my last post. I won a giveaway from Laura over at 52Flea . She is one awesome and thoughtful lady. Laura has a great and interesting blog, and amazing taste in vintage. Her mom is sweet as pie. She helped Laura picked out items to send me from her stash of treasures . 52 items that is!!! I had so much fun opening each and every gift. Laura it must have taken you forever to wrap each item! Look at all of my treasures!!

I wish I could have gotten a better picture of this apron. It is too cute! The colors are so vintage pretty. I must confess I wore the apron while I opened the gifts ;)

Ribbons, magnets, picture frames, milk bottle tops, garden treasure, glass mushrooms on stems,and an egg in a basket.

Happy sweet glass flowers in a cute vase, and a vintage bottle with a crown, black and white buttons (I love the wire). These both sit on my sewing table!

Laura this is such a great idea. A sunflower pendent with some mini gardening treasures. I love it. I will have to use this idea :)

So adorable vintage cooking items,strawberry bowl, pretty tea bag rest, egg cozies, happy printed tea towels, neat swirly monogrammed tea towel, sweet pot holders, and look at that cute little guy.

On the notebook cover is "what shall I buy today?" printed on the front. So funny! Vintage green polka dot cow. This went on my wall too :)

Laura how did you know I love PIE ? ! I love fruit pies for breakfast with coffee. So yummy :) I had the perfect spot for this delicious sign. I'm still looking for something to put in that empty spot that I see every time I enter the kitchen. And this my friends is quit often.

Vintage little tea pot (the tea goes in the basket inside of the tea pot and I wait for it to brew!) Large bar of so amazingly scented Magnolia flower soap, and matches in a pretty butterfly box. In other words the makings of a wonderful take me away bath time treat.

I Made Us Some Cookies!

Hello :) I've been' on the gooo. I needed a cookie break. Thought I'd try making a cookie I have never made before. Results TASTY! My family thought so too! It's now on my faves list. The cookie I chose to make are called Russian Tea Cakes, also known as Snow Balls, Mexican Wedding Cookies, and who knows what other names it is known by.The sifter shown is not dirty its just old :) The recipe is as follows

Russian Tea Cakes

1c butter at room temp

2 tsp vanilla extract (I substituted for almond extract and added 1/4 tsp vanilla extract)

1/2c sifted confectioners sugar, plus more for rolling cookies

2c flour

1/4 tsp salt

1c finely chopped pecans or walnuts (I substituted for almonds and I toasted them in a pan on the stove.)

Directions

Preheat oven to 325 degrees

Cream butter in large mixing bowl. Add vanilla or almond extract(s) then gradually add the 1/2 cupconfectioners sugar, beating until light and fluffy.

Sift the flour, measure, then sift again with salt (sifting is very important). Add gradually to the butter mixture. Add nuts and mix well.

Shape the dough into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Flatten slightly using the bottom of a glass, then bake for 20 minutes, or until edges are very lightly browned. Remove the cookies from the baking sheets and roll in powdered sugar while still hot. Cool on wire racks and roll cookies again in powdered sugar before serving.

Once completely cooled, cookies may be stored in airtight containers for up to 1 week.

These cookies are messy but delish. Well worth the powdery goodness all over my shirt, and face. I hope you will enjoy making these cookies. Let me know if you have made them before. Amarcrinum memoria- corsii (Naked Lady)

Hello :) Not a real Naked Lady! Someone made a comment on my last post that the Lily might be a Naked Lady. I did some research and found some interesting information. It is known as Naked Lady, Surprise Lily, Magic Lily, and Resurrection Lily. It grows from a bulb in the Amaryllis family. It's leaves appear in spring, and die back during June. Just when you think the plant is dead up pops a stem, and then some pretty pink lilies! The lilies appear in August. I remember my father-in-law giving me two bulbs from his garden about four or five years ago, but I don't remember planting them there. This is the very first time they have bloomed! My father -in-law did tell me they were Naked Ladies, but I thought he was joking :) This photo shows just the stem. Notice the leaves have died back to get ready for the blooms below.

I enjoyed seeing their delicate, pink blooms. The last of the blooms just died yesterday, but they were nice while they were here. Welcoming me home as I drove up my driveway. Until next year ladies.

Today I will be at my local court house for jury duty . Don't know if I'll be picked to be on a case, but it is always a kick back day of sitting, waiting and reading a good book. I bring snacks too. It's not pretty when I'm hungry. Ask my family :) Have a good day. Until next time :)

Never Truer

Hello :) I see my front yard garden daily as I come and go. Yesterday when I came home from school shopping something caught my eye. I got out of my truck and walked on over to this mysterious plant. I said to my new found plant you sure are pretty, but I don't remember planting you. Stay as long as you like and feel free to multiply, but don't take over. Daughter Number 1 !

Hello :) Just wanted to give my daughter Holly a shout out for a Happy Birthday! She is a wonderful daughter. Holly is an RN at a level 1 trauma center. She sure knows her stuff too. She is a home owner and has two little dogs. Most importantly she puts her faith in the Lord. After she graduated from high school she spent two years in Bible College, then went to nursing school. Some of her hobbies are cooking, baking (she makes some yummy things), gardening, play her guitar, read, estate sailing, and doing things around her home. She loves to hang out with her family and friends, go to the beach, snowboard, loves to traval and go on missions trips, and so much more. Holly has a big heart and she is beautiful inside and out. I think I sound like the MC of a beauty pageant. Happy Birthday Holly !!!! You make us proud. I am blessed to have you for a daughter. Until next time.

Hello :) I went to a couple of estate sales this past Friday. I don't think I ever mentioned that my son Aneel likes to go with me. My daughters Holly, Sarah, and Aleah go with me sometimes, but Aneel goes with me every time. We are an estate sale team. If the kids see something I might like they send me a quick txt to come and take a look, and I do same for them. Even if I don't buy anything I still enjoy looking at the houses. I find it interesting to see how floor plans have changed throughout the years. Seeing the must haves and luxuries of the day. So neat!

I bought these rosy cheeked little choir angels at the home of a 94 year old women that decided to move to Florida. Her home was built in the 1920's. It was such an adorable home. Wish I took pictures! Does any one have any info on these angels?

I love these adorable glossy angels. Their just singing their hearts out.

I'm not sure if this is a candy dish or what it is. The lady had cotton balls, and Q-Tips in it. Beautiful is what it is for sure. What do you think it's use is?

More kitchen gadgets. A girl can never have to many. Like shoes. Right! Kitchen timers seem to be my fave for now.

My mom bought this cute little bird pendant for me at an estate sale we went to. Well it wasn't really an estate sale. It was at a retirement mobile home park. They are not allowed to have yard sales. Instead they have estate sales. Smart! It is sterling silver with an abalone shell. I love it! By the looks of it I'm collecting pendants too! Roxanne The Amazing Artist!

Hello :) Roxanne is not part of a circus act. She just fits the title of this post. She is in fact an amazing artist. I won a giveaway from Roxanne (Roxanne the Artist). When I saw her giveaway I knew exactly what I was going to do with that amazing canvas. If I won that is! Roxanne is a talented artist, and teacher. When you visit her blog the first thing you will find out about her is her love for the Lord. In reading her About Me sidebar you will find she is her husbands cheerleader, and how much she loves him and their three adult children. Another thing you will of course see is how talented she is. If I lived in her area I would so take some classes.

This is not a very good picture of my memory wall (in my entry way). The kitchen window was casting a glare. One good thing is you can't see all of the 200 plus nail holes from the other pictures I have hung on this wall. I still need more pictures for my family wall of memories. It's too bad my family is camera shy. Not!

Roxanne you have an amazing gift. Thank you for sharing it! I will cherish my canvas always. I love the statement it makes to all who enter our home that we indeed are a family that follows the Lord.

Hello :) What's true you ask ? Christmas in July! I won a giveaway from Laurie over at Bargain Hunting and Chatting with Laurie. I have followed her blog as long as I've been a blogger. She is a wonderful lady. She does amazing tablescapes, and is so creative! Laurie is also the one who taught me how to make photo mosaics using PhotoScape, and she did this by email! When you see my mosaic pictures it is because of her I am able to do this. Thank you sooooo much Laurie! It truly was a treat to receive such a thoughtful and generous gift. So my friends go on over and visit her blog!

Everything is just fabulous. I love bird treasures!

This ice cream bowl is for the serious ice cream eater. I am that girl! Almonds, dark chocolate fudge, melted peanut butter ( notice it's fat free. I cut back where I can :) ), caramel, and an Oreo ! Now if only I had Bananas.

I just know my creation tasted better because it was in my new beautiful ice cream bowl! Of course no ordinary spoon would do. I pulled out the large spoon for this one. AMAZING!

Best 4TH of July!

Hello :) This 4TH of July was one of the best! My son Billy came home for a surprise visit. My son Aneel was the only one that knew about his brother coming for a visit. On Friday Aneel told us he was going to work for a couple hours, but instead went to the airport to pick up his brother. When I saw him I could not believe my eyes. It didnt take me long to decided to have 4TH of July at our house instead of going somewhere else. I made our traditional meal. Shrimp wrapped in bacon, carne asada tacos with red bell peppers, onions, (all grilled) rice, and beans. For dessert I made a spice cake, bought a bucket of vanilla ice cream, cupcakes (from my niece), and cherries! My husband did most of the barbecuing. Although I do love to barbecue. It was an amazing day. The house was full of laughter, and great conversation. Before we drove him to the airport on Monday we went to breakfast. Pictures of the whole family are hard to come by now days. It was sad to see him go, but we know he is right where God wants him to be. This makes us happy. How did you spend your 4th of July? Hello :) Today is my wonderful friend Kathy's birthday! My awesome friends (Nadine, Karon, Kathy ) and I celebrated with her last week. It was a fun day at the beach, Yahtzee, lunch, and homemade cookies. Kathy is so very sweet, giving, encouraging, and a women after God's own heart. I am blessed to know her, and have her for one of my friends. Have a spectacular Birthday Kathy! Can't wait until our next beach day!

Karon and Nadine, had a great time riding bikes. They sounded like little girls riding around. I'm a bit accident prone so I stayed off the bikes. My husband even handed me extra money in case I fell off and had to go to urgent care. He sure knows me and loves me. I decided not to make a trip to urgent care, stay off the bikes, and put the money in my piggy. Hey a girl can always use some extra estate sale, thrift shop money. Right! It was a great day! Brunch at Holly's

Hello :) My family and I were invited to Saturday brunch at Holly's (daughter #1). What a way to start the morning! The table was beautifully set. She is an amazing cook, baker, and hostess. It was all so perfect :)

Holly made Bread Pudding Quiche with Berries and Apple Wood Smoked Bacon. It was so very delish! The quiche recipe is from Better Homes and Garden, Spring 2009. My little contribution was the Chocolate Chip Scones.

I love Quiche. Come to think of it I have a slice in the fridge! Think I'll have that yummy slice for lunch! It was a great time of conversation, and laughter. Thank you again. You are amazing! A Trip, Graduation, and 8th Grade Promotion !!!!!

Hello :) My son Ayden, was promoted from 8th grade into 9th grade! He finished with five A's and one B!! He was in drama, made Principals Honor Roll, and competed in an end of the year track meet. He sure can run, and act. Ayden ended his year with a BANG! Last week we went to see our son Billy ( Private First Class) graduate from ARMY Boot Camp! My husband, myself, Holly, Aleah, and Sarah, (Aneel and Ayden were unable to attend) went to South Carolina to see the big event. The ceremony was amazing. He walked with such pride. Head held high, shoulders back, and marching with passion for his country. Boys you make your family proud! I'm going to brag now, and show you some pictures :)

From Ayden into the Mad Hatter ( and the Oscar goes to ). His sister Holly was his makeup artist. She did a fabulous job! When Ayden runs it looks like he is floating. He has a nice stride.

I can't believe he is going to the big house next year (high school not prison although some kids might disagree ). He looks so handsome all dressed up. Yes the necklace I'm wearing is kind of heavy,but it was too cute for me to care :) After the graduation went to Claim Jumper, then to see Iron Man II. It was a fun filled day.

From the Ontario Airport to North Carolina, and a short drive to South Carolina. It was a happy tears moment. This was Family Day! Boy was it hot and humid, but so beautifully green.

Spending The Night!

Hello :) Tonight my Mom and I are going to my sister Jenni's (Genevie's) house to spend the night. She is making us a light late lunch (she is an excellent cook), and then we are off to a used book store. I love to read (I think I've told you this before). Tomorrow we are going to a big estate sale in her area (San Pedro). It's going to be a fun slumber party! Chick flick movie night! Not only am I bringing sweet, home made Choco Chip Banana Bread, but I'm bringing Nectarines, and Red Grapes ( the mom in me needs to bring good for you fruit). See you when I get back! So Easy Peach Cobbler

Hello :) This is the easiest Peach Cobbler recipe ever! It is also very delicious. This recipe can be made using berries, apples, pumpkin pie filling, or whatever your fancy. Put on your apron, and lets get that cobbler going.

Two large cans of peaches and one small. I was only able to find peach halves, but it was not a problem, cause I just sliced them myself. In a 9 x 13 glass baking dish spread out drained peaches, cover with 3/4 of the cake mix ( feel free to use the whole box if you would like), slice 1 stick of salted butter into thin pats, and place them on the cake mix in rows ( as shown above), sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake at 360 for 40 minutes or until golden brown.

See how golden brown and delish it looks! I wish you could smell how wonderful it is. It is so yummy when it is just out of the oven. I didn't have any, but some fresh whip topping or vanilla ice cream on top is amazingly tasty. This is also the perfect dessert to take to a potluck. It can bake while your getting ready.

I hope you will make it and tell me what you think. If you decide to use apples (or apple pie filling),or pumpkin pie filling (number of cans will depend on how thick you want it to be), sprinkle the top with cinnamon, and brown sugar, and then bake. If I use fresh apples I cook them on the stove until almost cooked adding brown sugar, and apple pie spices. My family loves it when I make cobblers. Be creative. I also love eating cobbler for breakfast with my coffee. Not all the time cause my hips love cobbler too. My sewing room is just waiting for me to find a work bench to do my cutting and sewing on then I am done! I hope to find it soon. Until next time!

Mother's Day!

Hello :) My Mother's Day was wonderful. It started off with my husband making coffee , and my daughter Aleah making Crunch Berry Pancakes (scrumptious! ), a trip to the airport to pick up our daughter Holly (just arrived home from a missions trip to Hatti), then a tasty lunch at Panda Inn Restaurant. Holly told us about her amazing trip, we got to talk and catch up on our kids lives. Always a great time. I'm a proud mom. After lunch the kids presented me with Mother's Day gifts. So very sweet of them :) The lovely and fragrant flowers were from my daughter Sarah.

I saw this necklace at a church women's retreat and loved it. Just thought the bird looked so sweet perched on a branch. I had no idea Aleah and Sarah bought it for me. It was a great surprise. This verse is a delightful reminder of God's love.

The hope sign was from the retreat too. It's going in my bedroom. Also from my kids a new set of pots and pans! Not just any set, but a Giada set! I needed new pots and pans sooooo bad. Never expected a set from her line. My kids sure know me :) Can you guess what I cooked to break them in?

Buckwheat Pancakes! I love Pancakes (like you don't know). So light, fluffy, and delish. They are travel friendly too. It's an easy grab and go. Loving my new set!

Being a mom is awesome! I have been blessed with wonderful kids. Thank the Lord! A shout out of appreciation and many thanks to my kids for an incredible day. Taking A Decorating Break For A Great Cause

Hello :) Today my mom (Rufina), sister Jenni (Genevie) and I participated in the 5k Revlon Run/ Walk For Cancer Research. It was held in LA, CA. Rise and shine was at 5:30, we got ready, went to Starbucks Coffee, then to the freeway to make our way to our destination. When we arrived we went to the registration area and were given our t-shirts. Our journey from start to finish was with 60,000 (as announced by the MC over the loud speakers)other run/ walkers. It was amazing to see how many people were walking in the fight against cancer. Many were walking as cancer survivors, and for family and friends who passed away trying to fight the good fight. My sister and I spent time with our mom and were able to take part in a very important cause. We will definitely participate next year. I hope my other two sisters and my daughters can join in next year.

We walked with all of these people! We were like Sardines.

We made it passed the finish line and it felt so good. We were cheered and we were given medals, and a Mother's Day rose (rose and medals, and some other things were donated by Toyota). When we passed the finish line we received a snack bag and water.

These are my shoes that helped me cross the finish line, kept my feet from hurting(love my shoes), and the medal I received for crossing it!

It was a memorable event. It was evident many hours of hard work, and dedication went in to planning it. If you ever get a chance participate in the walk. Have a wonderful Mother's Day. The flowers are from my garden to all of you. Until next time.

My Own Space

Hello :) I hope everyone is doing well. Since my son moved out we have an empty bedroom. Can you guess who the proud owner of that room is ? It's me! Billy's old room will be my new sewing room. I will be busy priming, picking paint colors, and making it my own space. While shopping at a clothing store (Forever21) I spotted this scarf, and decided it would be the perfect inspiration for my new room. So cheery. Don't you think! That's what I want to feel like every time I enter my room. Can't wait to get started this weekend.

It's cozy, and mine. I'm so grateful for the space. The walls are gray with black trim and the carpet is gray. It is very much a guys room, but with several coats of primer and some girl paint, and my little bird collection it will look so sweet and cheery. Can't wait to show some pics.

Hello :) A few months ago my husband decided it was time for him to lose some weight and eat healthier. For a small monthly fee (through his work) he joined a program (run by a dietitian) geared toward making better food choices and exercise. He attends classes, and there are grocery store tours! Because I do the shopping and cooking Lauren (dietitian) allowed me to attend the grocery tours with him. He went on the first tour with me and I went on the next two with our daughter Holly. Lauren took us throughout the store showing us foods that were good for us, why, snack ideas, and gave us recipe ideas. I had so much fun on each tour and learned so much. Lauren is so nice, and helpful. Bill went on the first tour with me, but wasn't able to attend any of the others. I love coming up with healthier meals. We are now calorie counters. We are not obsessed about it though. All bets are off when we go out with friends or on special occasions. Lets not get crazy! Not only have I made some changes in the way I cook, I have gone back to Curves (women's fitness club). I've been working out for 7 days. Its a start. Curves is known for its 30 minute workouts. I had no idea how out of shape I was until my first workout ( saying to myself I can do it). My husband has lost 43 lbs and I have lost a few. I feel better, and my clothes fit better. I'm so proud of my husband. Your doing a great job sweets! Call me crazy, but I look forward to going to Curves and comparing ingredients on packages. I am now the crazy lady in the isle comparing ingreditents on food packages, and looking for the one with the least calories. This change in cooking is benefiting my kids too. Cooking Light Magazine and Weight Watchers Magazine are some great resources. I also look at recipes I love and make changes to make them lighter. What are some of your favorite healthy snacks to make or buy? I'll share one of mine on my next post. Until then!

Surprise Letter and A Fellow Bloggers Giveaway!

Hello :) I had the most hectic morning today. Going here and there and everywhere. Finally I arrived home and checked the mail and I found the best surprise! Inside the mail box was a letter from my son Billy! The envelope felt thick and heavy. I wanted to open it so badly. Instead I waited two hours for my husband to get home from work, so we could open it together. I kept myself busy by cleaning. As soon as Bill, walked in the door I held up the letter and handed him the letter opener. I sat next to him while he opened it (after waiting two hours it took everything in me not to grab that letter opener from him and do it myself) and read it aloud. The letter was four pages long! This was very surprising, cause when we talk to him 98% of the time we get a one word reply. We could not believe how much he had to say. The short version is he is doing well, misses everyone,he is a squad leader (loves it), got his M-16, and will attend weapons training class, and will learn how to rappel down walls. He sounds happy to be where he is :) Thank the Lord! My family and I are counting the days until graduation in June. We are all so proud of him and can't wait to see him. Sending out a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you for your sweet, encouraging words and your prayers. You are all so special to me. Thank you again :)

Making Memories

Hello :) So many things have happened since my last post. Too many things to list! Back in December my oldest son Billy enlisted in the Army. On March 28th (my Birthday) he left for boot camp. He will attend school (on the Army's dime) to be an Army Combat Medic (W68). Before he left we made some extra family memories. Grab your beverage of choice and lets take a tour through my families memory lane.

We had a big send off party for him. My husband, myself and the kids wore Army shirts (daughter Sarah's idea:) ). Our Pastor lead us in prayer over Billy. We had the event catered and enjoyed Carne Asada Tacos, Chicken Tacos, rice, beans, and then had three different flavor cakes. It was very tasty!

On one of our memory days we had a tasty dinner at a restaurant, then we saw Alice In Wonderland, at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, CA. In 3D. It was a great movie and great time. Our kids invited a couple of friends. So much fun!

We went to Bill's parents house and ate yummy homemade Puerto Rican food. My Mother-in-law Nadine, is an amazing cook.

Dad and his brothers shaved his head. The time came to take him to the recruiters office, take some pictures, and say our goodbyes. For now.

I couldn't believe three months went by in the blink of an eye. We made the best of those three months. When Bill and I married Billy was 11 years old( 22 in a month). I watched him go from boy to a young man of faith in the Lord. I don't think of him as a step son, but just my son. The Lord brought my husband,his son and three girls into my life, and I have grown to love them as much as my own two boys. It was not easy sending him off into the military during war time. Thank you to all of my family and friends who have prayed and continue to pray for our family. God has a plan for my son (and for all of my kids) that I am sure. Thank you for taking this tour with me down memory lane. Just a quick Happy Birthday to my sweet mom! Until next time.

Hello :) Just popping in for a minute. I've been very busy lately. My son Aneel, planted Nasturtiums from a seed packet I bought at our local nursery. I just love the variegated petals. Nasturtiums are edible and I have tried them. A spit them out of my mouth now reflex comes to mind. They are supposed to have a peppery flavor to them. Now I'm off to finish up some work in the garden. I have a big party at my house this Saturday, and there is work to be done. Have any of you ever eaten Nasturtiums? Did you like or not like them? Hello :) My friends and I celebrated our wonderful friend Karon's Birthday. Let me just say that when my friends and I get together it's an all day event. When we get to talking and laughing there is just no stopping us. I've been known to set a crock- pot dinner on such days lol. Karon and I have been friends for 10 years. We met when my sister-in-law invited me to join her bunco group. I have mentioned Karon in a couple other posts. There are so many positive things to say about her. First she is a women after God's own heart, beautiful inside and out, loving wife and mom, lights up when she talks about her family and friends, encourager, sweet, trustworthy, giving, always available to give decorating advice (and I do call on her often), great cook,awesome host, she is a very talented painter (canvas). Maybe she will let me share her work sometime. I could go on and on about Karon. I love to hang out with her (as I do all of my friends). Happy Birthday Karon. You are very much loved. Nadine brought the delish Banana Cream Pie (thank you). The food was yummy and on the healthy side too. I so loved my Turkey Sandwich and slice of Banana Cream Pie. Mail Call !

Hello :) Today was a great mail day. I won a blog giveaway from SweetJeanette! She is just like her blog name Sweet. She is one crafty lady too. This is what I won!

Jeanette made that Sweet heart. The bright, pastel and dark colors go sooo well together! She also made that pretty red velvet bookmark. Red is my favorite color and I have always loved flowers. Didn't she do a fantastic job! When I saw the trust cham right away I thought put your TRUST in the Lord daily. It's perfect and I love it!

I love to read. In fact I read books on a regular basis. It takes me awhile to finish a book because I read between every day tasks. The book above is one I received nine years ago for Mothers Day, from my daughter Holly. The authors name is Amy Stewart and the name of the book is From the Ground Up. A story about her first garden experiences. I read it every summer. A favorite author of mine is Francine Rivers. I've read every book she has written. One of the first books I read of hers was Leota's Garden. You can find this book and others she has written on Amazon.com, your local book store, or library. Welcome To My Office

Hello :) Thought I would show you my office. I work at Oralingua School For The Hearing Impaired, in Whittier, CA. You can log on and learn all about the school and its goals. It takes me an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes to get to work and about two hours to get home (TRAFFIC). Thank goodness I only need to go in two to three times a month. My hours will increase in March, because I have a few projects to do with the kids. My sister-in-law (Elisa) is the Executive Director of the school. She knew I love to garden and asked me to come to the school and clean up the flower (weed) beds, and do a garden project with the kids. After the project was completed she asked me to stay on and maintain the gardens. I enjoy working with the kids. They have the cutest expressions on their faces when they touch the soil, dig a hole for a plant, find a worm, and shower the plants. This makes the long drive worth it. I've worked at the school for seven years. Are you ready to see my office ?

These pictures are not that great. I used my phone to take them. The grounds don't look all that great right now either lol. Right now it's all green and brown, but soon there will be white, purple and pink flowers popping up. Before you know it it will be time to put more soil in the beds, plant tomatoes and other veggies. Can't wait!

We planted these Daffodils three years ago. They look so cheery and make me smile :)

There I am. Wanted to show you that I'm in charge of pulling out those weeds. I keep this bed with only a few flowers, because these are the beds the kids plant and have fun in. They also plant in the other beds, but I keep more plants in those so the grounds don't look totally empty. There are seven beds and one very long bed on the other side of the play ground. I also tend to the court yard.

Because the gardens face the street, and is next to a retirement home, I get plenty of ladies stopping by to say a quick hello. The ladies are always dressed in there best casual clothes, hair done up, lipstick on and perfumed. I love to see them in their vintage clothing,jewelry, purses, and hairstyles. Sometimes I get a whiff of their perfume and think it is probably one worn since they were in their teenage years. They always have something nice to say about the gardens. I enjoy the visits. Well I hope you enjoyed the tour of my office. I have the biggest office out of everyone who works at the school. Late Lunch

Hello :) Who says you can't make a nice lunch from Ramen. I don't eat it often, but when I do I like eat it like this.

Cook noodles, dice up some cherry tomatoes and green onion and you have a refreshing topping. I add some Pico De Gallo, for some spice and use half the Ramen, seasoning packet (i like to keep the saltiness down). Sometimes I add a little diced Serrano Chili.

Doesn't that look more appetising. It is an inexpensive, easy, fast, tasty little lunch to tie me over until dinner.

After I eat spicy food I like to eat a little something sweet. My friend Nadine, made these delightful cupcakes for our Couples Valentines Bunco (sat), so much fun! I'm going to be a good girl and only eat half.

My son Billy, left for Arizona, on Feb 16th and arrived home today. He races radio control cars and is sponsored by Team Losi! To welcome him home Ive decided to make a big, deep dish lasagna and a salad. I used to make my own sauce, but now I just add some dried Italian Seasoning, and fresh garlic to the sauce and let it simmer. This gives the sauce a savory homemade taste. Nadine, those cupcakes are delish! Maybe I can run around the block a half a dozen times so I can eat the other half :) Guess I better get started on the sauce. Is there a quick lunch you like to make or if you make Ramen, how do you like to eat it? Until next time.

Giveaway Winner & Valentines Weekend

Hello :) Friday, my husband and I went to our church couples dinner. He surprised me with a beautiful pink rose corsage (my very first one!). It was so thoughtful of him and I was proud to wear it on my wrist. When we arrived at the dinner we checked in and then got in line to have our picture taken. We had a nice time talking to our friends, meeting new people, and eating a nice dinner. The guest speakers (a pastor and his wife) gave an awesome message. It was about putting the Lord first in your life and in your marriage. And by putting Him first you will want to please Him by treasuring the one He gave you for a spouse. I so believe this! Today my day started with the delivery man bringing me beautiful pink and red roses and balloons special from my husband. I was so excited ! Thank you sweets for being so thoughtful and making me feel so special. After the flowers arrived we took the kids (only 3 could make it) to lunch at a restaurant called The Market Broiler. We ate, laughed, talked, and ate. It was a great time :) The rest of day was spent relaxing.

On the back of each letter I wrote a number ( 1-16 reprsenting the 16 comments).

I mixed up the batch of numbers with my eyes closed handed the Valentine mug to my husband to hold and my son Aneel, stood by ready to pick the winner. With camera in hand I took the picture as he reached in with eyes closed and grabbed the winning number. It was all very exciting! Number 4 on my comments list is Becky, over at Life At Camellia Cottage! She is a wonderful, sweet, and talented lady. I have enjoyed many visits to her blog. What Else Does A Girl Do ?

Hello :) What else does a girl do on a late rainy day afternoon? Besides clean house, bake, and cook. This girl boils some water for a cup of delicious tea, paints her toenails and fingernails with her fave hot pink polish, and watches a movie.

Or I watch a funny sitcom, cause the kids have no interest in watching a musical :)

Here is a close up of my tea cup. This was a Christmas gift from my husband when we were dating (13 years ago). He bought me a matching pair. My first tea cups! They are beautiful and my favorite ones. He bought them at an antique shop.

I poured you a cup of tea! The Vanilla Chai, is so tasty with a dash of pretty sugar crystals or a drop of vanilla creamer. Where did the time go! It's almost time for me to make dinner. I think I'll make Vegetable Barley Italian Sausage Soup, with toasted french bread. I don't have a recipe. I'm just going to wing it. I had a bowl of Vegtable Barley Soup, at Panera Bread, recently and thought I'd make my own version with Italian Sausage. I'll let you know if it turns out. What have you created your own version of? Fancy Oatmeal

Hello:) I am so not an oatmeal kind of girl, but because it is good for me I'm trying to like it. On a trip to Starbucks (last month) to buy a coffee I broke down and ordered an oatmeal. It came with a packet of brown sugar, mixed nuts, and dried berries. I added some milk and dash of cinnamon put the cover on and let it sit for a minute. Loved it! I've enjoyed it a few times since. So I thought there has to be a way I can make this at home and save some money. While on a recent trip to Trader Joes, I saw a bag of Golden Berry Blend, and a bag of almonds, and the light went on and the angels began to sing! A bit dramatic? Maybe, but the light really did turn on. I put them in my cart and headed for the check out. Today I made this for breakfast!

to here! Under all of that berry goodness is oatmeal goodness:)

Add some fat free milk or fat free half and half ( heat the milk before adding gives a richer flavor), and brown sugar and we have perfection.

Have a taste. It's delicious isn't it! Don't you just love the beautiful colors of the berry mix. Just lovely.

This is how I cook my oats. Before you add the oats add ground cinnamon to the water (a tip from my sister Jenni) and bring to boil (cinnamon will infuse the water). Add oats. I like texture to my oatmeal so I add 1 cup old fashioned oats, and 1/2 cup 1 minute oats and cook on med low for 3 to 5 minutes (depends on how soft you like your oats). Try it! You and your heart will enjoy it :) Did you hear that beep? It's the coffee maker. Coffee time. Love my coffee! Until next time.

My New Kitchen Helper!

Hello :) I know I keep going on and on about Christmas, but I just want to share one of the gifts my husband gave me. As you can see by the pictures its a Kitchenaid! I was so excited. As I have said so many times before I love to cook and bake. It is displayed ever so sweetly on my kitchen counter. Every time I come into the kitchen it's the first thing I see :) My husband bought the splash guard you see over the bowl separate. Totally keeps the food in the bowl and not all over the counter, cabinets, fixtures, floors and me. It also makes adding the ingredients a cinch. I have my eye on an attachment for pureeing jams. Bill (husband) thanks to Jenni (genevie/sister) searching the web found a great offer at Williams - Sonoma on mixers. It was $100 off plus a $50 mail in rebate! Maybe when I get that rebate money I'll buy that attachment I want! My son Aneel, attached some lighting under the cabinets. Those lights cast the nicest glow on my new toy. I didn't even know I needed lighting under my cabinets until he put them there. I love my lights! Wanting to make something special I tried my hand at making cinnamon rolls.

Look at her go! Mixing those ingredients and doing the finest job. I L O V E it :)

A few hours later this is what I made with the help of my mixer. They were so yummy and so well mixed. I would love to make another batch of cinnamon rolls. If you have a recipe to share with me. Share it please! Until next time.

Tamales and Turkey Fry

Hello :) I hope everyone enjoyed ringing in the New Year! I will rewind a little and tell you that in December, I made tamales at my sister Yvonne's with my oldest daughter Holly, my mom, and my niece Savannah. Making tamales has been a tradition for many many years! We made 35 dozen. We keep some for ourselves and we give some to family and friends. We celebrated Christmas Eve with my husbands family and Christmas Day with my family. Every year two days after Christmas I take the Christmas decorations down and put up the New Years decorations. For New Years I decorate with glass ornaments in shades of blue, silver, snowflakes, and snowmen dressed in blue. My grandmother would decorate her house in these colors for New Years and it stuck with me. Growing up I thought everyone decorated like that for New Years. This year was our 8th annual New Years Day Turkey Fry. The first year was small just family and a few friends. Now eight years later we are using two deep frier's, dipping nine turkeys and renting chairs for a full house! It is so much fun having our family, friends and neighbors over. We make some of the food and ask family and friends to bring side dishes and desserts. My parents buy the turkeys every year for our big party. Lets look at some pictures.

The making of the tamales. You don't see me, but honest I was helping :) For our big tamale day my mom made a homemade chicken pot pie for snack time. It was delicious!

Now it was time to taste test the tamales. We got the thumbs up from Holly and Savannah.

After the tamales were put into zip loc bags and the mess cleaned up it was time to go home. Well almost. Since my sister lives fifteen minutes from Oak Glen (apple orchards, restaurants, shops), Holly and I decided to drive on over and buy an apple pie and a few candy apples. We had a great time sipping hot cider and enjoying the crisp night air. It was a wonderful day!

New Years Day ! There's my husband frying the turkeys! His apron says Real Men Fry Turkeys. He bought the apron at a BBQ store. Look at that golden delicious turkey he just took out of the fryer! It was so yummy :)

* Now that the holidays have come and gone, my body decided it was a good time to come down with a cold. Although I hate being sick (who doesn't) I am glad it happened after the holidays. Hello :) I pray everyone had a blessed CHRISTmas. My eve and day were spent absorbing every detail of both days. With my kids getting older and going in different directions, next years CHRISTmas may be a little different. During these two days we had great times (fun and laughter) and down times (remembering we may not all being together next year). We had to pull ourselves together and remember it was Jesus we were celebrating. I will choose to remember the great times. He is in control and anything is possible with Him! Until next time.

Short Bread Cookies !

Hello :) I pray all is well with everyone. Last night I played BUNCO at my friend Nadine's house. It is always a pleasure spending time with such wonderful ladies. I have known most of them for about ten years. We have a great time when we are together. Chatting, laughing, eating, and a shared faith in the Lord. We actually visit more than we play. When I first joined BUNCO, we played six rounds and now we play one to three rounds. In fact we make our score cards with three rounds instead of six. Some of us see each other once a month and some of us attend the same Bible Study and see each other once a week. Last night we played one round, because we had a Christmas Potluck and gift exchange. I won a gift card for Panera (a soup, sandwich, bakery and cafe :)!My mom was a substitute player and it was her gift I won :) My mom and I always have a great time hanging out. Having these ladies in my life is such a blessing. I made them some homemade Short Bread Cookies for a Christmas treat! Make them. You will love them!

Bake in preheated 325 degree oven for 30 min or until golden brown. I usually bake mine for 40 min. I added food coloring to my last batch to add some cheer :) Enjoy!

My next cooking adventure will be to make Apple Butter. I found a recipe in my Ida Bailey Cook Book, but I am comparing other recipes I've found. Hello :) I want to say a big thank you to Elyse, from Cottage. I recently won her giveaway! What a great day it was when the mail man came and delivered it from her home to mine. It was packed full of treasures and I enjoyed each one. It was so thoughtful of Elyse, to make me an adorable apron girl :) Thank you Elyse for being so sweet. Please visit Elyse and take a tour of her etsy shop too. She is one talented girl. I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving. I enjoyed mine. Now that my fall decorations are put away, it's time to dress my home in Christmas decor, plant some Christmas color, and for my son Aneel to put up the Christmas lights. Soon it will be time for us to buy our tree, decorate it and enjoy our annual Christmas Tea and Secrete Sibling Gift Exchange.

Pancakes and a Treasured Cook Book Find

Hello :) Have a seat and lets talk. I have recently fallen for cook books, but not any cook book will come home with me. I have spent the last couple of Saturdays at estate sales, looking for cook books. When I opened Cooking Menus Service (Ida Bailey Allen), I instantly felt a connection with the lady who once owned this book. It was chalked full of hand written notes, hand written recipes, food smudges, a few beauty aid clippings, folded pages of her favorite recipes, and tips. Because the house was open I was able to tour her home, and see where she cooked, baked, created, and entertained. I have fallen for cook books that have the previous owners love written inside. What does this have to do with pancakes! Well, this morning I woke up with a hunger for homemade pancakes. I grabbed the cook book from my stack of cook books on my fridge and looked for a pancake recipe. I couldn't find a recipe for regular pancakes, so I grabbed my Better Homes and Garden Cook Book (also bought at an estate sale with written notes). While thumbing through Cooking Menus Service, I found a clipping for a waffle treat called Honey Syrup. I made the syrup for my pancakes (figured there wasn't a rule it was only for waffles).

Isn't she beautiful! The recent copyright in this book was 1932 (my copy) the first was 1924. This is her first talk in a radio station. She was born in 1885 (Ida Cogswell) and died in July of 1973. She was known as the domestic goddess. It is said she invented the marshmallow- topped sweet potato casserole! She wrote more than 50 cookbooks and was contributor to six magazines. She was an ambitious women that's for sure. The forward in the book was very interesting. Don't you just love that hand mixer.

Hand written recipes inside by the previous owner. The recipe (salad dressing) on the Hotel Vincent, stationary was written and given to her by a chef at the hotel. You could say she was able to schmooze chefs for their prized recipes. Think I'll try the dressing and let you know how it taste. She must have had a beautiful complexion (judging by the beauty aid clippings). It appears she was into saving money where she could too.

The syrup was so good on my homemade pancakes! The flavor of the warm butter and honey with a hint of vanilla taste so delightful. When cooled the syrup thickened and was the perfect spread for toast. You have to try this simple, but tasty syrup. I hope you enjoyed your visit. I enjoyed having pancakes and coffee with you. Pumpkin Scones As Promised!

Hello :) My name is Aimee and I love scones. With the weather cooling (on and off here in Riverside, CA), it is time to do more baking. As I'm sure I've said many times before I love to cook, I love to bake and I love to eat! I make scones throughout the year. They are perfect for any time of day ( I think so anyway),perfect for a little gift, dessert and potluck. I eat them with cool whip topping (1 small container of cool whip topping add 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, whip) , assorted jams, honey or plain. There not just a treat you eat while sipping your tea any more. I've been making scones for years, but have only been making the Pumpkin Scones for two years. They are so easy to make and so tasty. Rev up those ovens and let's bake some delicious Pumpkin Scones.

I doubled the recipe, but the recipe I am giving you is for a single batch. In large bowl mix, 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/8 tsp salt, 1/4 -1/3 cup sugar, 3 tsp baking powder, 2 tsp pumpkin spice (add according to your taste), 1 stick salted cold butter (diced and squished (technical term) into flour) You will notice the butter escaped this picture and made its way into the next picture, but add into the dry ingredients. unruly butter!

In medium bowl whisk, 1/2 cup canned spiced pumpkin, 3 tbs cold half- and- half, and 1 large egg. Pour wet into dry and mix.

Roll dough out onto floured surface and kneed 5 times, separate into dough balls. The number of dough balls depends on the size you want the scones to be. Since I made the scones to give to my friends as gifts, I wanted them to be bigger. I make them smaller when I'm making them for a tea. Flatten dough balls into rounds, thickness should be 1/2" to 1"thick. Use a pizza cutter to cut each round in half and into desired triangles. Place onto foil lined baking sheet and bake in a preheated 425 degree oven for 12- 16 minutes. The cook time will depend on thickness. Place onto cooling rack and cool. Smells great. You are doing a fantastic job!

Powder Sugar Glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar, 1-2 tbs whole milk (add 1 tbs at a time until smooth and desired consistency), drizzle on top of cooled scones. While plain glaze firms make the Spiced Glaze. Spiced Glaze : 1 cup powder sugar, 1-3 tbs (add 1 tbs at a time until smooth), 1 tsp pumpkin spice, mix and drizzle over plain glaze. The spiced glaze should be thicker than the plain. If you look through the cooling rack I placed wax paper on my table so I could drizzle the scones while they were on the cooling rack. Made clean up a cinch!

I hope you will try making the Pumpkin Scones, and enjoy them as much as I do. Serve with a dollop of whip cream ( I didn't have any) it is delicious ! When I received an email from Deborah that I won her wonderful giveaway. The little girl in me came out today when I saw the mail carrier coming up the driveway with my package. It took everything in this girl not to meet him at his truck. A sudden moment of clarity strcuk me! During this moment it was clear (that's why it's called clarity) that if I ran out to meet the carrier he might run, jump back in his truck, and take off with my gift or mace me (both are not good ). Homemade Strawberry Vinaigrette

Hello :) I pray everyone is doing well. I've been working in the house and in the garden. The house never stops getting dirty and the weeds never stop growing. Imagine that! Recently my husband and I stopped at a vegetable stand and bought some strawberries. A lot of deliciously ripe strawberries. Whats a gal to do with so many (besides strawberry shortcake)! Make a hearty salad and dress it with some homemade strawberry vinaigrette? Yes! It is very easy to make, tasty and the color is beautiful. Grab your apron and let's begin.

I bought the strawberry shaped, strawberry slicer at my local grocery store. Works great and saved me so much time from slicing them by hand. Don't get me wrong I love to slice, dice and chop, but I also love kitchen gadgets. Loving my estate sale mini food processor too.

* 1 and 1/2 cup sliced, dark, ripe, strawberries and into the food processor or blender

I used extra virgin olive oil, but you can use light or any oil you would like to make your dressing. If dark balsamic vinaigrette is too tart try the light (clear).

*1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

1/3 cup balsamic vinaigrette (whisked into olive oil)

Isn't he adorable! I bought him at a garage sale. The top was a metal screw top, but I took the top off my plastic bear and put it on him. It's a perfect fit. Since he is glass and can't be squeezed the honey comes out slow. He is so cute. I don't mind the wait. Moving on.

* 1 and 1/2 teaspoons honey

1 and 1/2 teaspoons brown sugar ( taste after each teaspoon to see if you want to add the other half teaspoons)

Add one tiny garlic clove, puree form. One way to achieve this is to mince garlic on a cutting board add a little salt, smear with butter knife. You don't have to add the garlic, but I think it brings out all of the different flavors that make up the dressing.

Add the strawberry puree and salt and pepper to taste. If the dressing isn't strawberry enough feel free to add some strawberry preserve.

All done and ready to enjoy! This is not a very good picture. The sun went to bed making the house dim. There is nothing like the sun shining through the windows of a home. So inviting. As I said before I love a hearty salad. Grilled then diced chicken breast on a bed of baby spring salad mix, sliced strawberries, diced gala apple and pear, corn, fresh shreds of carrot, dried orange cranberries, sun flower seeds (toasted almonds if you have them), red bell pepper, mushrooms and crumbled blu cheese. YUM! I have made this dressing using a frozen (thawed) berry mix instead of strawberries and have added juice from a couple of orange wedges. I hope you enjoy making this dressing and find it to be just as tasty. You may have to add more of one ingredient or two to your liking. Salad was last nights dinner. Now what should I make for tonight? I know. It will be a very simple meal. Sloppy Joes with slices of cheddar cheese on whole wheat buns and into the oven to melt the cheese and some baked seasoned potato wedges. The rest of my day will be taken up with garden work. An easy dinner it shall be . Until next time ladies.

Done For Now!

Hello :) Thought I would be a better host this time. I made us some french press coffee and some Pumpkin Squares. I know it's a little early in the year for pumpkin treats, but I couldn't resist. Grab a fork and dig in. I'm still not done with the kitchen, but wanted to show you some pictures. I'm still looking for some odds and ends to pull it together. I invited my friend Karon over to give me some ideas on decorating. She helped me realize less is more and more is sometimes just more. Karon also helped me focus on the look I wanted for my kitchen. After she left I uncluttered my kitchen cabinets. Seriously did I really need 4 sets of spindles for hand mixers I don't have any more? My sister Jenni (Genevie) is now the proud owner of said spindles. I had to keep reminding myself that I was going for a vintage look and not modern. It is so easy to get off track. My kitchen is nothing fancy or great, but so far I love how it looks. I like the color I chose (turquoise sea). It's going to take time for my husband to get used to the color,but just like the red he will get used to the turquoise. Let's take a look :)

I've decided I love paint! It's inexpensive, comes in a zillion colors and can change something from drab to eye catching. If you don't like the color you can paint another over it.

Pretty jars hold my flour and sugars. I love to bake! One of these days I'm going to make a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting from scratch and top it with toasted coconut flakes. YUM!

The wire basket was white before I painted it cherry red. I got the handkerchief idea from my friend Karon. A couple of years ago my daughter Holly , Sarah and myself re grouted the counter tops. It was very inexpensive, easy and looked 100 times better after we were done.

This dish soap from Dawn in Apple Spice, is great. The bottom of the bottle is an air freshener. How cool is that! Smells delightful. Try it. You will love it too.

The sink curtain is not permanent. I'm still looking for vintage fabric or a table cover I can make into a curtain. Just haven't seen anything I like.

Apron I hung like a little curtain. Not a very good picture, but it actually looks nice.

My coffee area. Bought the blue and white glass sugar jar with metal lid from an estate sale. It has the name Gemco printed under the jar. Does anyone know where its from? It now holds my coffee scoops. Love my coffee!

Look on top of the fridge. Do you see my fancy cake holder? My cakes are gonna travel in style from now on. It was only $6 from an estate sale! It's in great condition.

Bought my pretty little red toaster oven at Target a year ago. Fits right in.

My "new" utensil holder. Should I paint it cherry red or a brighter yellow? I sure enjoyed having you over to see my newly painted kitchen. Like I said I still have some odds and ends I need to buy, but for now I'm loving it. I also repainted the dining area, but forgot to take before pics. Bad blogger. It Is Time For A New Look!

Hello :) I have been wanting to repaint my kitchen for about five months, but was unsure of what I wanted. I knew I wanted to add a vintage look to my kitchen. Lately I've been buying baking dishes, bowls, kitchen towels and utensils at estate sales. Just can't be stopped. I love bringing home these wonderful treasures. So I emailed my good friend Karon (so many wonderful ideas swimming around in her head) and asked her for some ideas. She is my go to girl when it comes to vintage :). I keep telling her she needs a blog. So many women would benefit from her creativity. Let's take a look at the before!

My sister Genevie (aka Jenni and second oldest), my daughter Holly and I painted the cabinets about six years ago. They were a dark wood finish. As you can see it is time for a change.

I'm sure I was supposed to be a better host and clean up before I invited you all to see my kitchen, but I don't think it's necessary if you are doing a before and after. Right? :) See the Giada De Laurentiis cook book (has a cooking show on tv) on the refrigerator? My sister Jenni gave it to me for Christmas. She stood in line at her book signing in LA, CA (in high heels, walked a mile, because there was no nearby parking and stood in line forever) and had it signed for me! Very special gift :)

I know many of you have noticed the cook books on the stove. I just put them there for a sec. I know one should never leave flammable items on the stove. I was taught this rule and the roll up your sleeves before you cook rule (as to not catch them on fire) in elementary school. I always thought whats the big deal and like the stove is just gonna turn its self on jeez (second grade attitude)! One day last summer there was a short in our stoves wiring and fire came through the knobs (turned its self on)!A couple years ago my sister Jenni was cooking and not following the roll up your sleeves rule. Yes, her sleeve caught on fire! She was not hurt:) Both of these incidents taught me valuable lessons. Turns out my teacher knew what she was talking about. After all as kids didn't we really know it all :)

This wall was being shy. Therefore I was unable to get a good picture to show it's true color . It was green when I moved in. You can see a little of the back yard.

The cabinet doors kept falling off so I put up a curtain. I'll be putting up a new rod and new curtain. Hmmm what color fabric should I buy ?

Let the games begin! I am so ready. First the primer. I'll be back soon to give you the finished version. Is anyone else making over their kitchen or have any websites or blogs I can visit to get some ideas on vintage kitchens? I'd love to know. Have a great day and until next time.

Estate Sale Finds!

Hello :) Over the weekend I went to an estate sale. My estate sale day began with a Starbucks (half and half and hazelnut syrup) and $20 in treasure money. Upon entering the home I greeted the family members having the estate sale. Second I headed for the table with the kitchen items and proceeded from table to table and box to box. Nothing had prices on it and my arms were full of treasures. I didn't let the fact that I only had $20 stop me from adding more to my pile. As I looked through the belongings I felt sadness for the family members of the people who passed away and at the same time felt blessed to have treasures of theirs to bring into my home (except that bug infested bird house). Take a look at my new to me treasures.

This sweet apron is handmade! Every green stitch was done by hand.

Large vintage table cover (thought this was going to cost me $10). Very different from anything I have seen or own.

This table runner will be going to live with my Mom. She will love it.

Look at all of these cool kitchen finds! I was so excited when I found them. The spatula handle is wooden and red (my fave color) and the spreader (for icing cakes) will be put to good use. I wanted a lazy susan and there it was sitting partially under a table.

Aerial view of my estate sale treasures (all from the same place) from standing on a kitchen chair. I bought the Cubs coaster set for my father-in-law and the coral went to my son. Not shown is a kitchen towel I bought and gave my sister and a bag of white buttons I gave my daughter Holly. Turned out I didn't need to take out $20 from the ATM, because all of these treasures only cost me $2.00! Can you believe it! Best day ever. What is your best ever find or finds? Speaking of treasures I came across this blog http://52flea.blogspot.com/(as I am very challenged in the ways of computer know how, you have no idea how excited I am that I know how to add a link!) about a week ago. Sweet Bird House or Is It ?

Bird House Treasure?

Hello :) I bought this sweet, vintage looking, bird house (paint chipped and all!) last weekend at an estate sale. I saw it perched on a branch in an orange tree. Standing there looking at the bird house, I pictured the birds coming and going, snacking on bird seed, seeking shelter from the cold in winter, and building nests inside for their babies. After I woke up from my day dream I asked the lady in charge if it was for sale. She said "name your price". I said $5.00. She agreed and I said sold! As I was in line to pay for my bird house some ladies were commenting on how cute it was and how they wished they would have asked if it was for sale. I was feeling pretty good about my find. When I got home into the garage it went. Today as I was gathering my gardening tools I grabbed the bird house (had the perfect spot in mind) and stopped to take a few pictures to share with you. Isn't it so sweet!

See something inside?

I opened the drawer for you. Take a gander inside at the birds nest! Packed full for baby birdies comfort. Wanting to give the birds in my yard a clean, "new" to them, home (so they could poop on it). I proceeded to remove the nest by gently putting the drawer upside down on the grass as to not ruin it and then removed the other drawers. As I lifted the drawer (it gets scary here) up from the nest, huge earwigs (pincher bugs) came crawling out (at least 30)! Picking up the bird house I ran to place it on driveway, grabbed the hose and sprayed it down. As I sprayed more crawled out and with them came the biggest ants I have ever seen in my life and with them came some weird looking flying things (may have been termites), and egg sacks from who knows what species. I put the hose down grabbed my little hand rake and the biggest bag I could find and prepared for battle. Rake and bag in hand I put the whole bird house with nest inside and double knotted the bag.

It's new home. Soon to be taken away by our cities finest Sanitation Employees. I really appreciate their hard work :). I was not going to take any chances that the bird house might be infested with termites (no loss in my eyes). There will be other great finds. What's the point of this post? In a nut shell don't buy wooden things you see in trees. Inspect before you purchase. Do you have a story to share? Wishing you all a great and safe weekend :)

The Making of Bruschetta, Take One !

Hello :) I recently made Bruschetta (Italian appetizer) with Baguette bread, for my friend Karen's, Garden Planting Birthday Party. It is easy to make, tasty, and refreshing. I recommend making it the night before or early the day you are going to serve it. Making it early helps the flavors to marry (blend ). Put on your apron and let's make some Bruschetta!

Slice bread on the diagonal (desired thickness), place onto foil lined baking sheet, brush or spray both sides with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, lightly sprinkle one side with crushed Sea Salt. Bake in 450 degree oven, until golden brown (brown both sides, browns quickly!). When done remove from baking sheet, cool on wire rack. Cooling bread on wire rack prevents the bread from becoming soft and chewy in the center. I prep the bread first so it has time to cool and become crunchy. Next is the Bruschetta.

Dice one 16 oz package Heirloom Tomatoes and one 8 oz package mini Cherry Tomatoes and two medium Roma Tomatoes (tomatoes should be a little firm so they don't mush when you slice)I love Basil so I added between 1/3 -1/2 cup chop Sweet Basil. One quarter of a small Red Onion (looks purple, but is called Red Onion ), sliced thin and diced. Adjust basil and onion according to your liking. When in season I use the package of mixed Heirloom Tomatoes ( heirloom tomatoes come in all different sizes, but I have found in my area the mini Heirloom mix is more affordable) along with the Roma Tomatoes, because I love the different flavors. This can me made using only Roma Tomatoes.

A few months ago I bought this ceramic, hand painted grater (came with brush) at a Farmers Market in San Diego, CA. I love it! I grated one large garlic and one small.

Add two - three table spoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Balsamic Vinegar (start out one table spoon at a time) to taste. I added 1/8 - 1/4 cup, add Sea Salt and Pepper to taste. Toss and cover with Saran Wrap (plastic wrap), refrigerate.

Now take a big bite. Isn't it yummy! If you would like you can grate garlic into the olive oil and brush it on the bread. You can spoon the Bruschetta on the bread and top them with a slice of mozzarella (cold or warmed in the oven to melt the cheese).Another tasty idea, Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and prosciutto. Be creative. I sure had fun making this dish with you. I hope you will try it soon and enjoy.

My Friend Karen's Garden Party!

Hello :) My friends Nadine, Kathy, Karen (birthday girl) Karon (her awesome idea) and myself, had a Birthday Planting Garden Party for our sweet friend Karen. We had the best time laughing, talking and playing in the dirt :) These ladies are very special to me and such a blessing. They are beautiful, funny, sweet, talented, loving, encouraging, and they love the Lord. I just love them. I am so thankful for their friendship. Since it's Karen's special day I want to give you an idea of just how special she is. One day I was having a real crummy (Karen's word) day and I sent Karen an email about my crummy day and at the end of my email I mentioned I needed a Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks. After I was done emailing her I got in the shower and after I got dressed and was coming down the hallway, my oldest son Billy said "there's something on the kitchen table for you ". You guessed it, on my kitchen table was a Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks, delivered special by Karen. That act of kindness touched my heart so much. She laughs with us not at us, she shares her heart, and is delighted to hear not only in our accomplishments, but our families too, she is a super mom, wife and friend, she is thoughtful, kind, sensitive, smart and she has a beautiful smile and I know she prays for everyone near and far. I could go on and on :) Thank you Karen for being so special.

Nadine is such a hard worker. She was our go to girl.

Isn't this too cute! Karen already had this in her garden. Kathy gave her this little bed last summer and Karen filled it with alyssum and it just took off (the flowers not the bed :) ). I only have two pictures of the back yard, because the sun was so bright, my pictures came out with glares on them. You will just have to take my word that it looks great. We not only brought nursery bought plants, but we brought cuttings and bulbs from our gardens to share too.

Let's move to the front yard. Nadine, Karon and Kathy arrived at Karen's at 7 a.m. I didn't arrive until almost 9. The grass was all the way to the bushes. Grass was dug, bricks were laid, and plants put in. I made it in time to put a few plants in and pull some weeds. Let me tell you these girls rock, cause it was sooooo hot! Awesome job :)

Doesn't the pretty garden angel look like she is basking in the sun and admiring her hard work. The garden trellis (bday gift) added a nice touch to the garden, and the fern looks so vibrant against it. Notice how the mosaic bird house (bday gift) is casting a nice shadow on the wall. Now take a look at the round bird house with the two little love birds perched so sweetly (not sure if that was a bday gift).

Like mom always said "after your work is done you can play ". Karon and Nadine sure had fun as Kathy sprayed water in the air to cool them off. They looked and sounded like little girls as they played, squealed and laughed! Alright girls time to come in for lunch.

It's a big girls lunch with Karon's, Chicken Salad (picture does not do it justice), my Bruschetta, served with sliced oven toasted French Bread, and cold lemonade (Nadine). The food was delicious.

I promise there was dessert on this plate. Kathy made the Birthday dessert. As you can see I enjoyed it very much. Kathy will just have to make another one so I can take a picture to show you. What do you say Kathy? We ate, talked and laughed for hours.

Lacey girl could not wait to explore her new garden. She found a nice shady spot to smell the new plants. It's gonna fill in nicely!

The time came for us to go home and return to our loving families and daily routine (dirty dishes, laundry, sweeping, and so on) We left the Birthday Girl to enjoy her garden. She looks so happy. It was a special day and I have been blessed with sweet memories. It's nice to set the daily routine aside (not all the time, but once in a great while) to celebrate a friends birthday, have lunch, go to a movie, thrift, or just sit in a coffee shop reading a book, and act like a girl without a care in the world. The dirty dishes, laundry, sweeping and so on will be there when you return home. Maybe the dishwasher will be emptied for you as a nice surprise, or the sweeping and mopping done, or your bed made for you when you return home, as it is for me once in a great while (thanks kids :) ) I sure felt refreshed by the fun, laughter and sweet conversation. Take time to spend with friends and thank them for adding something special to your life. Send your friends cards every now and then, a quick encouraging email or txt and pray daily for them. Thank you for visiting me today. I pray for all of you too :)
